Andreescu & Giorgi to open National Bank Open, Montreal

Camila Giorgi and Bianca Andreescu are set to play their respective openers of the National Bank Open in Montreal against each other. The Tennis match is scheduled to happen on August 08, 2023, at IGA Stadium. Andreescu is one of the three Canadian champions appearing in the tournament. She is also the highest-ranked Canadian champion with a position firm at the 44th spot. Her opponent, on the other hand, ranks 51st and hails from the region of Italy.

Their contest is a part of the Round of 64. The other two Canadian players in the tournament are Leylah Fernandez and Rebecca Marino at the 88th and 90th positions, respectively. Leylah will compete with Peyton Stearns, an American star, with the time of the match yet to be known at the time of drafting this article. Marino will take on Katie Boulter of Great Britain on the night of August 07, 2023.

According to online gaming news, Venus Williams will play her fellow, Madison Keys. The 7-time Grand Slam Champion is the favorite to win that event.

The events are being updated following the conclusion of the qualifier round. The most recent was between Birrell and Putinseva, with Birrell emerging victorious by 6-2 and 6-4. Giorgi comes from a victory over Ashlyn Krueger in the qualifiers. The final scoreboard was 6-3, 4-6, and 6-3. She managed to make it a fair 2-1 win against Krueger. The final set could have gone either way; however, Giorgi made a strong comeback to make sure that the next knockout round had a spot to her name.

Most of the qualifiers on the concluding day have been a clean sweep. Birrell versus Putinseva was just a single instance. It followed similar wins of Boulter against Ribera and Stearns’s win over French.

The National Bank Open will end on August 13, 2023. It will, till then, move without the presence of Eugenie Bouchard. She was the hometown’s favorite player, losing the three-set duel to Danielle Collins. This was her first Tennis match in the venue since 2018, and a close one, someone might add. It finally tallied to 6-1, 1-6, and 6-1 against the 49th-ranked opponent. One set was clearly to her name but not the momentum. As a matter of fact, even the crowd was cheering for her, knowing that the star needed to go on to make the country proud.

Interestingly, all three sets lasted for a short time. It was only the first set that went on for 29 minutes. The remaining two sets were clocked for 27 minutes each. Bouchard equalizing the scoreboard was a ray of hope that fans wanted. Losing the finalist of the Australian Open 2022 has hurt their sentiments, but there is also a sense of pride for the champion.

The National Bank Open begins the Round of 64 on August 07, 2023, while women’s doubles set foot in the Round of 32.
