Windsor receives a revenue-sharing payment of CA$2.1M from OLG

Communities around Ontario that have hosted casinos have received their most recent revenue-sharing payments from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. Windsor, the center of Caesars Windsor Casino, has received CA$2.1 million for the third quarter of fiscal year 2023-24.

In accordance with the Municipality Contribution Agreement, the Crown agency shall be permitted to allocate a portion of the revenue produced by gaming activities to the communities that operate its casinos. The distributions are governed by a mechanism implemented in all Ontario gaming areas. It varies according to the revenue potential of each property.  

The City of Windsor received its third-quarter payout from OLG the week before. This includes the period from October 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023. Within this time frame, Windsor could collect CA$2,146,955 from its host municipality. Collectively, the city has accumulated CA$7,886,295. 

Meanwhile, OLG is looking for the next operator for the Windsor casino. According to speculations, three firms appear to be in the running: Caesars Entertainment, Bally’s Corporation, and Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment. 

Windsor, together with the mayor, tourism executives, and union members, has voiced its support for Caesars’ continued ownership of the setup. Dave Cassidy, President of Unifor Local 444, a labour union representing the establishment’s employees, stated that the company should be the first pick due to its capabilities.  

Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy recently stated that OLG is still distributing funds from the Municipality Contribution Agreement to the towns that are home to Ontario’s casinos. These funds will be used to fund essential programs and services that are beneficial to all Ontarians. This will benefit everyone in Ontario. According to him, physical casinos help create jobs, support communities, and provide a healthy living environment. 

Based on Canadian online casino news, OLG announced that in the third quarter, it paid more than CA$34 million to 29 host communities across Ontario. This involves Brantford, which is home to Elements Casino Brantford. In the third quarter, the city collected CA$1.3 million, bringing the total for 2023-24 to more than CA$4 million. Since its start, the casino has contributed about CA$100.3 million to the community.

OLG also allocated a quarterly sum to Niagara Falls to accommodate the Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara. The city allocated the utmost distribution amount of CA$4 million to all host communities during the third quarter of 2023-24. Since December 1996, when the first casino commenced operations, the municipality has amassed an impressive CA$210.77 million in revenue from OLG.
